LE SITE DE CLAUDE CLOSKY N’EST PLUS !

UN HOMMAGE AU SITE QUI A JALONNÉ L’HISTOIRE INTERNET DU MUDAM
01/02/2010

To evoke Mudam’s new website, one must also return to the first version, which, it must be said, was widely talked about for a long while. It was developed, upon the invitation of Marie-Claude Beaud, by the French artist Claude Closky - award winner of the Prix Marcel Duchamp on the occasion of the Venice Biennale in 2001. The site constituted the first window onto the Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean: a platform of information on the evolving museum, as well as a real creative space, with a gallery of digital works (included, moreover, in Taschen’s favorite websites), and critical media gathered together within a magazine, where the information displayed - much in the same way as a teleprompter - a whole host of authors such as Jean-Charles Masséra and Benjamin Weil.

The first version made light of advertising codes with pop-ups which managed to frustrate even the best informed surfers. The second version changed direction through a rudimentary interface, a crude processing of information, and menus which couldn’t be more simple, but it made more than one person quake with fear of a bug.

The Internet site created by Claude Closky is, therefore, no more! When it went online, it was well in advance of its time and it generated, over some long years, the same passion that a work of art arouses, disparaged by some, adored by others.

Some people, such as those in the very first team, will be nostalgic and certainly miss it. Because it was, as Claude Closky explains, “a different space, which asked questions by diverting the use of the Internet”.
