TINA GILLEN
Tina Gillen’s (1972) paintings feature representational worlds counterbalanced by the abstract forms on their surface. Both surface and space thus compete for the viewer’s attention, resulting in a complex confusion, a charged atmosphere. The linear perspective appears abolished and the perception unsettled.
Häusersequenz
The Häusersequenz (1996), created towards the end of her studies in Vienna, represents the beginning of her gradual evolution towards a certain abstraction, considered by Gillen herself as a gradual abandonment of all control over the pictorial process. By reducing views of houses from her own environment to images of a timeless realism, this way the artist underlines: “The house as a mirror of its inhabitants is compromised.”
