ATTILA CSÖRGŐ, BETWEEN ART AND SCIENCES
Objectives
The continuing education course will further teachers’ knowledge of contemporary art, starting from a series of works selected from the Attila Csörgő exhibition.
The following skills will be developed:
• identifying cultural apertures in one’s own discipline
• linking these apertures to the curriculum
• articulating awareness and gaze before the work
• identifying significant visual and cultural contexts
• articulating cultural referents in their contexts
• putting into practice methods that promote visual thinking
• formulating transdisciplinary avenues
• communicating with cultural partners
• reinforcing the coherence of one’s own cultural path
Contents
The sequence entails constructing a pedagogical path around a series of works chosen from the content of the exhibition Attila Csörgő.
Attila Csörgö explores the adjoining territories of art and science. He makes experiments with carefully engineered and meticulously adjusted devices of his own design. His works attest to a mindset that is playful and humorous, as well as philosophical. He's one of the best-known young Hungarian artists, who is featured at prominent international exhibitions and art fairs, like the Venice Biennale in 1999. He has won the prestigious Nam June Paik Award.
Methodological approach
Taking a sequence at the Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean - Mudam Luxembourg, the course uses different forms of visual inquiry and object-based training, such as
• “savoir-voir” and observation
• comprehension, articulation and visual association
• reading, interpretation and analysis of an image and its pedagogic exploitation
• articulating what is seen in words
• the visualisation of a creative process
• the organisation, development and mastery of visual knowledges
